The only way to ensure the economic survival of organisations, establishments and employees in the European automotive industry is to escape, in the long run, the competitive pressure from cheap labour countries.
The 5-day car concept brings about a radical innovation and enables the European automotive industry to gain competitive advantage. Being part of the “EU 5-Day Car Initiative”, ILIPT tackles both the conceptual and the practical aspects of the automotive industry’s radical new concept: The delivery to the customer of a bespoke vehicle only several days after placing the order.
The ILIPT vision concentrates on future scenarios for new flexible planning and execution processes, new supply network organisation structures, and new supporting technologies in the year 2015, in order to reach the 5-day target. To this end, ILIPT describes potential impacts of the 5-day approach on future scenarios of the automotive industry for the year 2015 and derives from this requirements for processes and ICT infrastructures.
