FEV Motorentechnik GmbH
FEV Motorentechnik GmbH (FEV) is an independent internationally recognised leader in the design and development of power trains and power units as well as a manufacturer of powertrain prototypes and instrumentation systems. FEV is certified at DIN ISO 9001 in research and development, manufacturing, sale and service - TÜV cert (Certificate registration N° 01 100 0000 10).
FEV was founded in 1978 and has now approximately 1000 employees. A large number of them are upgrade engineers (doctor and Diploma engineers).
As a supplier FEV conducts the power train and power unit development projects from the initial concept phase through production release under direct implementation of the latest scientific discoveries. FEV has extensive experience in designing and developing new power and valve train systems as well as in the modification of existing design.
Mechatronic management plays an important role in FEV's power train development. Future mechatronic components like electro mechanic valve actuators and their control units enable FEV to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. Manufacturing and cost improvements as well as logistic chain improvements of mechantronic systems enables the introduction of new mechantronic devices into the production chain of the supply industry.
With our close contacts with international research institutes – especially with institutes of the Aachen University of Technology – basic knowledge is transferred into industrial products.
FEV's worldwide customers are the automobile and truck industry, power unit manufacturers and their supply industries.
FEV has long time experiences in the development of variable valve train systems for internal combustion engines. This knowledge and background will be used for improvement of the logistic chain and manufacturing cost reduction of complete variable valve train systems for universible usage. The research will be done exemplary with the electro magnetic valve train system which is fully flexible and can be adjusted to similar engines only by modifying the control software.
The electro magnetic valve train system was researched in the EU project ADVACO (Advanced Valve Control Systems, BE 95-1351). In the project VCR (Variable Compression Ratio, GRD1-1999-10272) the variability and their advantage and logistic for combustion engines was researched. In both projects FEV was the coordinator and involved in the concept, design, manufacturing and testing work
